DOAS WITH CHILLED BEAM

Vs.

CONVENTIONAL OVERHEAD

Upfront cost and payback analysis

Presented by ??TBA??

PROJECT OVERVIEW

HGA to provide overview of building type, construction, owners wish list, hours of operation, and any special considerations that needed to take place.

OVERHEAD VAV

#1:  As we should all understand conventional VAV systems, HGA to open showing the conventional layout of the system.  Air handler configuration, boiler configuration, chiller configuration, air distribution, water distribution, etc.  Summary on equipment loads would also be useful to establish a baseline for comparison.

#2:  Butters to present in generic terms the cost of equipment broken into generic items.  This could be done with a simple spreadsheet.

 EQUIPMENT

Chillers and cooling towers

Chilled water and condensate pumps

Boilers and hot water pumps

Air Handlers

Frequency drives and starters

Terminal boxes

Air distribution

Perimeter and supplemental heat

INSTALLATION

Piping installation

Sheet Metal Installation

Controls

Project management

(overhead and profit to be buried into the cost of particular items so as not to reveal anything Butters doesn't want to show)

OVERALL PROJECT COST

#3:  HGA to present estimated operating costs based on fixed parameters as those given by the owner.  Can we include demand charges in this?

CHILLED BEAM

#1:  HGA to present the layout of equipment of chilled beam.  In this portion we would only discuss the configuration of the system - i.e. the type of DOAS air handler required to provide dehumidified air to the chilled beam, review loads in the spaces (shouldn't change), air distribution strategy/chilled beam configuration, controls strategy.

#2:  Butters to present in generic terms the cost of equipment broken into generic items.  This could be done with a simple spreadsheet.

EQUIPMENT

Chillers and cooling towers

Chilled water and condensate pumps

Boilers and hot water pumps

Air Handlers

INSTALLATION

Piping installation

Project management

(overhead and profit to be buried into the cost of particular items so as not to reveal anything Butters doesn't want to show)

OVERALL PROJECT COST

Specifically show differences in costs for air handling equipment, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, drives and starters, sheet metal labor, piping labor,

#3:  HGA to present the estimated operating costs of the chilled beam system, paying particular attention to differences in air handling unit size, AHU heating and cooling BTU requirements,  pump size differences, drive and starter size differences.

Central Geothermal Systems

The Central Geothermal System concept combines the efficiency of a traditional geothermal heat pump system with centralized heating, cooling, and air handling to move toward an even more efficient system with additional significant benefits including better humidity control, centralized maintenance, enhanced acoustics, and superior flexibility. This presentation concentrates on the operating modes and control of Central Geothermal Systems.
